I'm Sally. I'm a mum of four boys, and I truly live the life I write about.
It's messy, raw, exhausting and chaotic.
It's also filled with love, hurt, silliness, and every life story under the sun.
I know what it's like to feel invisible. To be surrounded by people who need you and to still feel completely alone. The days fly by, the wheel turns, and you just keep going because someone has to. I've scrolled endlessly in the dark of the night hoping something, anything, will make me feel less invisible and more connected.
I know what it's like to carry everything. The invisible load we all carry including the appointments, the decisions, the worry, the mental (and browser) tabs that never close. I know what it feels like to be the one who holds it all together while simultaneously feeling like you are falling apart.
I'm in the throes of navigating perimenopause. The immense changes, both physically and mentally, that I was never warned about, and the load I carry refusing to shift.
I didn't come to this through a course or a certification. I came to it the hard way, through lived experience, and through losing people I thought would always be there.
I've learnt through parenting and homeschooling children who don't fit the mould, and through years of figuring out what actually helps things change, little by little.
I've read all the books and tried all the things.
I've felt the pressure to do it all, and ended up doing nothing because it all felt too much.
What has helped me was writing, both short lines and long lines. I've reflected, I've discovered, I've been curious and frustrated, and I kept chipping away until things slowly started to work.
Over time, the tools I have used changed how I see things, and taught me how to trust myself.
That's what Thinking Out Softly is.
It's the space I wished I'd had. A quiet porch where you can sit down, be honest, and not have to perform. Where someone holds the light while you figure things out, not by telling you what to do, but by asking the questions you're too tired to ask yourself, and being a safe presence on your journey.
